GMITE @ IIM Bangalore.
GMITE stands for General Management Program for IT Executives, it's an OPEN Program (you don't have to give exam to get into it), long duration course (11 months). Upon completion you would be given a Certification along with grades.
Subjects for 1st session -
Strategy for Emerging Markets - Prof. Jean-Paul Larcon
Financial Accounting - Prof. Hema Krishanmurthy.
Managing Cross Cultural Differences -
Prof. Rabi Bhagat
The classes start at 9:00 am, and end by 6:30 pm, with break for tea / coffee and lunch. I found the classes’ very tiring, as by the time I reached home didn't have time to study at all.
Course Contents and Professors - The course contents were very elaborate and the professors are extremely experienced, overall experience of study was good, but the course demands that you read the subjects before coming to the class, otherwise lots of time is wasted in discussions which are not directly related to the subject. The professors are given a timeline to complete the course, so irrespective of time, they will just complete the course somehow or other. We had 4 sessions of Financial Management and only learned about Balance Sheets and Profit Loss Statements, that's some 16,000 rupees considering course fee is 5.3 lacks!!!.
Students - The students were from various backgrounds, mostly engineers. The companies were also widely distributed. There was hardly any time to interact with people, only time was 15 minutes break and lunch break, after that no communication. From network perspective, it all depends on you.
Should one join - Very early to say, but if you are just joining this program for IIM BRAND name, then it might not help you, unless you have a plan on how to CASH on it. If you are looking to gain knowledge, then definitely yes, but you would really have to devote time for the course.

Hi Brijesh and Radhika,
Very Useful Information. If we have to apply from companies, should we face any interview as such ??
Regards,
Bharath Madgula
Bharath, no, it's an OPEN program, there is no test, no interview, selection just based on Work Experience and Education.
Hi Brijesh,
Very useful info, thanks. I've been trying to get a cert. course for a maters as I unfortunately don't have the time luxury to get back to full time studies.
I will certainly look up IIM-B website for their GMITE course, but can I quickly ask you here if their course is a weekend only structure or if it is a regular weekly classes course?
Thanks
Ajay K
Hey Ajay,
All classes are on Friday's from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm, lunch and snacks are served.
It's an 11 months course, 3 weeks full time you have to be at campus, 1 week each in Jan, June and Nov.
Check out - http://www.iimb.ernet.in/executive-education/open-programmes-long-duration-programmes
Hi Brijesh,
Many thanks for the info; that was helpful.

Hi Brijesh and Radhika,
are the classes held on every Friday ? how is this program different from EGMP ..do reply ....email at
sushil.kumar12015@gmail.com
@sushil, yes classes are held every FRIDAY from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm.
I don't know much about EGMP course, please check IIM-B website for more details.
Hi Brijesh,
Thanks for the info.
Wanted to know if this program is recognized in the industry. I mean, can you leverage this course to get into higher positions?
Any input from you is much appreciated
Thanks,
Sharath
Getting you into a higher role is a probable thing. Look! These executive part time courses(including PGSEM) would fetch you a Ferrari. Its upto you to drive it and decide where you want to go. Once can expect immediate role changes in full time programes thru campus placements
Thanks for useful info you have been providing.
Are we allowed to attend sessions through webEx in case we are out of Bangalore because of personal/professional commitments for few weeks.?. Because I have seen in the application form that there will not be change from on-campus to off-campus once admission is got. If so, not sure what's the necessity for this strictness.
Please respond if webEx is allowed when required for candidates selected as on-campus in their application.
@Raghu, yes webex is allowed if you are out of Bangalore.
Webex for GMITE for year 2013 has been closed. Now only Bangaloreans can be benefited from this course.
Did Anybody got admission for GMITE -2013 batch? Is admission list out?
Please share
Yes I got through the course.
HI,
I got an admit for 2013 batch. Can anybody tell if outstation candidates are allowed for webex sessions this year.

sri

Hi Brijesh,
I have got selected for the GMITE VII for 2013. Need your suggestion to understand how to select the specialization. Can you please suggest something from your experience.
@Sudatta, Specialization will be provided in the LAST session of the course, so you would have lot of time for that...
Thanks Brijesh
So what I understand is, we will be asked to choose the Specialization also during the end of the course or we have to specify at the time of joining. Also which one is better among all the specialization included in the course.
@Sudatta
Yes, you would need to choose electives in the last session of the course. The Electives are different each year as they depend of Prof's availability etc. Don't worry about those right now.
We had the following
1. Investment Analysis and Risk
Management
2.Managing Virtual Organizations
3.Business Analytics and Intelligence
3.Business Process Management Methods
Hi Brijesh and Radhika,
How do i apply for GMITE program, i searched in the entire IIMB website, but i could not find any information. Is there any specific application URL or announcement page?
Thanks,
Mamatha.
@Mamatha
Go to IIM B website - http://www.iimb.ernet.in/executive-education/open-programmes-long-duration-programmes/index.htm?Ref=IIMBsite
Click on - GENERAL MANAGEMENT tab, to check the details
The announcement for the course is made in Financial Times.
Thanks for the info!!
in you post you have mentioned that IIMB brand is not going to be helpful with this course. can you please elaborate and why you feel so?
@Bijoy
This course is an INTRODUCTION to all the subjects in management and does not go in depth, so using the name of college would not help that much.
Hi brijesh,
Thanks for good info shared.
I have 7+ yrs of industry exp and wanting to pursue management course in IIMB.
I have a couple of questions.
How is the grading done ? Do we need to slog for the exams :) .. Suppose you discontinue the class can you complete it later or is it mandatory to finish in a yr.
Please provide your inputs.. Thanks,
Anu

@Anu
Yes, you would need to study for exams, grading is OKAY, no one fails though :-).
you can complete the course later if you leave in middle, but you need to get this confirmation from Management.
Hi Brijesh and Radhika,
Will there be any placements, once after the course is completed. Want to hear regrading placements. Please share
Thanks
Sowmya
@Sowmya
No, there are NO placements for this course.
Hi,
I got selected for the GMITE-10 programme and I got selected.
I have few questions:-
1. Is the programme worthwhile? As in after the programme, do they (industry) consider you as a candidate for a managerial post?
2. GMITE-10 does not provide on-campus accommodation for even for outstation students. Any ideas where to find good and cheap accommodation near to the IIM-B campus.
3. Is it mandatory to work while attending the programme or solely on the student's will?
4. This might be a silly question, but still. Do they provide laptop in the programme fee? If not, is it necessary to carry a laptop for the programme?
Any feedback/response on the above questions or any other comments on the GMITE programme would be highly appreciated.
@yashlondhe
1. Depends on how you use the knowledge of the program, there is no industry consideration for this program that I know of as it is relatively new.
2. Just search for OYO rooms and you can get accommodations.
3. It is a part time program, so working is at your will.
4. No, there is no laptop provided and is not required as well. Text Books and Materials would be provided.
Thanks a ton for your quick reply.
Birjesh,
I forgot one more question. Nothing regarding dress code is mentioned in the offer letter or the brochure.
Can you suggest regarding the same? Do we need to wear blazers for every lecture?
@yashlondhe
Formal Dress code is recommended, but you can wear anything you like :-)
Hi , During selection do they ask to bring marksheets of 10 and 12 th? Do they check for experience letters ? do we need to provide references ?
Hi Nilesh, there are no checking for mark sheets etc once you are in the program
Sorry for late reply, no dress code
Hi Brijesh,
I have been selected for GMITE 11 program. I have gone through this complete post and got very useful information.
I just want to know one thing, how this program has helped you after completion.
Thanks
shailender
@Shail
In my case it did not help me, but cannot say that it's true for everyone, my personal suggestion is that one should only do this program is your present Company is supporting it..
